Reducing VOC emissions from Crude Oil Tankers

Welcome to GBA Marine AS. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of VOC or this is your first visit to our web page, we suggest you start with our Basic introduction to VOC and the CVOC system. This is intended as a guide which explains in a simple way the term VOC, why crude oil tankers are emitting VOC in the first place, and finally the elementary physics behind our CVOC system.

The patented CVOC system developed by GBA Marine is probably the most cost-efficient VOC recovery system available today. The equipment has been tested by Teekay Shipping in virtually all weather conditions on their North Sea AFRAMAX shuttle tanker M/T "Navion Hispania", and system performance during offshore transport & loading is also verified by MARINTEK. After completing the extensive testing in 2008, Teekay Shipping went ahead and ordered four more CVOC systems for installation on their newbuild "Amundsen-class" AFRAMAX shuttle tankers currently under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries in Geoje, Korea.

The "Amundsen-class" tankers are claimed to be "the most sophisticated and eco-friendly shuttle tankers ever built", and was awarded the first DNV / Nor-Shipping "Clean Air Award" in June 2009 based on their effort to reduce VOC emissions from the cargo. A short animated presentation of the "Amundsen Class" including the GBA Marine CVOC system has also been published by Teekay Coproration on YouTube.

The GBA Marine CVOC system has recently been featured in both magazines & papers. Several major oil companies and ship owners are showing increased interest in our technology.
